The
Story
I purchased the car in June 2002 after looking at
at least 20 other cars. It had only had 2 previous owners,
had a FSH, and all past MOT's and Tax Discs and had been well
cared for. It was advertised in Fast Ford and came from a
chap in Lincoln who had owned the car for the past 6 years.
As soon as I brought the car home it went straight into my
garage for 6 weeks as I couldn't book the time I needed off
work to do the things I wanted to do. Eventually I got all
the bits and pieces, clips, screws, 18" Super T Wheels,
Morette's, Stainless Steel Exhaust, etc. that I wanted to
replace from Ford and other sources I sent the clips and screws
off to the platers to be Zinc coated and set about my prep
work. Then came the bit I enjoy, I took the car to the garage
where I work in Mancehster David Herd Motor's (0161 747 5086),
having worked there for 18 years, I have a great relationship
with my boss and owner of the garage Brian Foster and he allowed
me to use all the bodyshop and paintshop facilities to totally
strip and re-spray the whole car, I must stress, this car
was in almost perfect condition, but being a Paint Sprayer
I knew it would look better under the bonnet if it was finished
properly in base coat and lacquer, rather than the matt base
coat which Ford supply (my personal choice, I am sure not
everybody would agree). So I gave it a fresh coat of paint
inside and out, infact 4 litres of Sikkens Auto Base and 5
Litres of Sikkens MS Clear Lacquer later it was ready to be
built back up. 120 hours later we had the finished product,
that you see in these pictures.
I only use the car through months of April - September when
I attend my Local RS Owners Clb Group of which I have been
the Chairman for the past 7ish years, we attend most RS Regional
Days on the calender as a group and a few local car shows
in between. The Manchester Group are a well established friendly
group, who meet up on the 1st Monday of every month at the
White Heart Pub, High Street, Cheadle. Junc. 3 M60.
When the car is not in use it is tucked up in my
heated garage in a Car-Coon to hibernate.
