Focus ST
This car is a hybrid from ford/volvo alliance the engine is the volvo
5-litre 5-cylinder inline motor with a turbo stuck on it. The all
alloy 2.5 engine is far from outdated, with dual overhead camshafts,
4-valves per cylinder, VVT, a turbo with air-to-air intercooler. Producing
an impressive 220bhp (wonder how long before the tuning companies
start to hit 300bhp with this unit).
A deeper bodykit all round gives the Focus ST220 a road-hugging look
the arches may look flaired but this is std throughout the range,
the new front apron is reminiscent of the Ford Fiesta ST, a taller
and narrower front grille and chrome highlights around the fog lamps
finish off the sporting look.
The rear of the all-new Focus ST220's rear foglamp openings are
trimmed in brushed aluminium while twin exhaust pipes give the rear
end an aggressive look.
Inside the Focus ST220 the intense colour is continued - this wont
be to everyone's taste ... "you know
when you've been tangoed" but there will probably be
more toned down colours available. With supportive leather bucket
seats, drilled alloy pedals and an additional instrument pod that
displays turbocharger boost pressure, oil temperature and oil pressure.
This car is well appointed.
There's also a leather steering wheel with an ST logo and 3 aluminium
spokes, giving the interior more of a motor sports feel than the
old ST.
Again the looks and equipment are great but this car has a lot
to live up to, not only having to be as good as the old ST but now
having to fill the gap left by the Focus RS.
