Still the ultimate rally simulation

Colin Mcrae Rally 2005

What's it about?

Colin McRae Rally 2005 for the PC is the latest game in the racing series. With realistic physics and challenging controls makes this a great game to play.

This game is made all the better by the access to rally legends like the Sierra Cosworth and the RS200.

So this is the exact opposite of most driving games, even the word "game" seems a little inappropriate as it's more of a rally simulation, so no in-game soundtrack, no racing and smashing into your opponents (although you do get a ghost car option with 2 players). But that's what makes this game special as it feels real and when you progress through the game you really feel you are competing in a rally.

The game really does give you some of the best cars ford can offer, driving the mk1 escort is a blast and looks absolutely real, right up to the rally concept fiesta - which I never thought would be available to play in a game.

Also the sierra cosworth and rs200 look great see the detail on the engine of the 200 above .. you get a better view when you manage to smash the perspex through landing hard or hitting the scenery.

fiesta concept
Every wanted to drive the concept fiesta ... now's your chance.

The game was tested on a high end pc, the graphics are stunning and the dirt off the road really looks real and builds on the car as you go through a stage.

An added bonus to xbox live or pc users is the online race mode, allowing you to race against people across the country, you see them as ghost cars and they have the players name above them.

Verdict - 8.2/10

Nothing radical here that we haven't seen in 2004 version. But tweaks and online modes make this great fun, also the classic fords really make this game.

Pros
Lots of Motorsport RS cars
Great physics
Collision Damage
Great detail on tracks and cars
Online fun

Cons
Nothing radically new here
A simulation not game
Can be a tad repetitive
