Brakes, we wanted these right as the brakes and suspension are as important or more so than any engine power enhancements ... so we spoke to alot of people and the guys on the forum and the best set up, according to most was cosworth all round ... so we did.

even the inside of the alloy
wheel is immaculate!

Here shows the rear brake problem the bolts are standing too proud to get the hubs on and needed machining down ... bummer!
(offside rear brakes)

The pic above shows the rear disk conversion believe it or not ... sexy or what?

Here is the rear drivers side brake set-up in all its glory excuse the dust .. (for now!!)

Above shows the front brake set up from the inside the engine bay.

Above - squeezing the best into our 15 rims ... brakes and calipers to shame a supercar!!

Above - Caliper and brakes cool eh?

You all know especially those who own a series one, the brakes are it's weak point. We want our car to be or look standard but we wanted to fix its faults and niggles. We also wanted BIG POWER ... but with power comes responsibility as the saying goes, so we decided to go safe with the brakes and fit the ultimate combo (well the best you can fit on standard rims). The rear kit was provided by burton, we were a little dissapointed with the instructions and customers support. The guys were helpful enough but could not help us as quote they had not fitted one and couldn't provide instructions. So we looked at other conversions and asked a few people who had fitted them, and modified ours to fit. The problem was the kit provided left the bolts standing pround of the brakets and had to be machined down. Not a nice job for the enthusiast to carry out!!

here is the rear kit before we fitted - click on the image for a large version

We paid over five hundred pounds for the rear kit instead of sourcing the parts individually, this was done to save time ... we ended up spending a lot of time working out how to make a kit work which should have been right in the first place.

Sorry to harp on but I want anyone who wants to do this mod to know whats involved.

But the end result was amazing as the pictures show, very effective. We had a Mk6 RS2000 in at the time and the front disks and calipers on the 2000 were smaller than the rear disks and calipers on ours. ;) the fronts are nearly twice as big!

We will let you know when we do the road tests how effective it is. We are not sure if it will be over biased to the rear .. but on seeing the front brakes we are not so sure, even so if necessary we can fit an in-car brake adjustment kit to vary between front and rear.

Up front big cosworth calipers. These were sourced ourselves after the rear problems and not only look amazing were easier to fit. With EBC disks and Greenstuff pads all new. They dont get any sexier than that.

So in all the braking system upgrades have cost around twelve hundred pounds but if we didn't get this right we would never have been happy. As for keeping the brakes standard ... we chose life!

The result is amazing you can see the front and rear calipers filling all the space in the tiny gaps of the series one alloys the visual result looks amazing. Clearance? ... there is a couple of millimeters clearance on each wheel.

Lets hope the drivers neck is strong enought to with stand the g-force ... I am a happy boy!!!

Next updates will be interior and engine install

We will also be adding a full spec of parts required and work involved in this conversion but we want to wait till we have wet track tested ours before we comment .. watch this space.
