Now we are getting down to the bare essentials.

We are leaving the bodykit and wheels on as long as we can - humor us, it just looks like any other escort without them - it keeps our spirits up.

The interior is totally removed now, we have the loom and some sound proofing to go yet but should have that done in a few days.

The dashboard was quite a job to remove as we had to be very careful not to damage the structure as it has no cracks and looks like new.

There were also a lot of problems with the alarm system (cat one cobra, and immobiliser) we had fitted last year, they are just not designed for easy removal, thats the idea, this took up several hour marking and labeling then removing wires and cutting wires.

With the dash out we have access to the loom and sound proofing also we can see any rot on the bulkhead.

We know its never going to return the amount invested in the restoration but not everything is about money thats not the point, we love rs cars ... thats our vice, and thats what we say to the people who say we are insane ... and that it's "just an escort" they don't understand and will never understand.

Apparently ford still make the looms for the s1 or at least still sell them, worth a thought. when you disconnect the loom you can with care remove it all through the bulkhead into the engine bay, easier said than done.
The rear end is easy to strip in comparison the the front end space is not a premium and all the connections are easy to access thank god.

You just don't realise how many separate components make up one part of the car. We have filled half a room with parts all bagged and labelled. The way it's going we are going to need more storage space.

By the way the tailgate is perfect ... may have had a replacement item as it has no rust anywhere.

The scary front end bit. There is so much to strip out of the engine bay to remove it properly and carfully is going to take days.

The replacement panels have started to arrive, this has raised our spirits, its going to be like a new car when we are through. We guestimated 2 months forget it, more like 6-8 months as we are going to miss 2002 summer we were planning to hit a few shows with it ... no chance look out for us in spring 2003 ... this is a cold hard lesson in patience.
