The
car is coming on in leaps and bounds - we have added
all the front panels and finished the underside ready
for the running gear, though we are still undecided
about the suspension package! Read on to see how we
got to this stage.
before
we added the new panels
wings
bonnet and doors and a tape measure!
The
result, our car has a face again
First
we had to complete the front end as we wanted to complete the underside
in two sections. First we had to treat the inside of the panels
with the 3M Sprayable sealer, this was a major expense as we used
about 30 bags on the underside and inside the wings. It was very
expensive but worth the extra we think.
We first of all positioned all the panels in the correct place using
small spot welds to keep the panels in position then added the scuttle
and the cross member and bonnet and the rest of the panels. Then
when we were happy that the panel gaps were exactly right we spot
welded the wings in place.
Spot
welds we done to emulate the original ford finish
You can see the spot welder in action when all the spots are done
we coat the area in zinc primer for protection. (see below)
The moment we had been waiting for, a good few months! We were ready
to prepare and paint the underside. All the new floorpan panels
were in and the bodywork was clean and prepared. THe new chassis
legs were in place all the seam sealer was set. The pictures speak
for themselves really the hard work has been done then several layers
of sealant and diamond white paint later the results were amazing.
Just look at that finish ... I is starting to look like a new shell
again, oh well now the prepare all the rest of the parts ready to
go back on.
